Left the tent after a better nights sleep curtesy of a pillow extension, ie a pile of clothing rolled into a roughly pillowed shape. Had a night of candles, tea tree, camphor and large moth. But no problem. Had banana and bread breakfast. Worked my way to the plaža at Ičići and had only one cup of kava.

On the chapter ‘hollow men’ and realise Fowles use of allusions to other texts and places. It’s like gaps in knowledge sometimes. If you haven’t seen that painting you don’t really get the text. Is this what intertextuality meant all them years ago. If you needed to refer externally to understand the internal. Never sure what that post-modern concept meant. Stumbled slightly on page 275.

Walked along Lungo to Slatina and found a good place to dip in the brine and sunbathe for a while – undisturbed. I thought the water was frigid with all the rain water that’s been added to the sea since Monday. After a while I adjusted and felt the last few days troubles melt away. It’s a good and private spot.

Wondered into the town and managed, just, to resist another coffee at the chocolate place: selling Kras brand cocoa. So I wondered along the road to Volosko for dinner. Went all out and spent 52kuna on calamari, hake and sardines with bean salad. More than I wanted to really, but I guess I had twice as much food as yesterday. Very good too. I have decided to eat the bones, whether that is right or not.

Paul says he’ll pick me up on Sunday night. Which is a plus. He’s a God send; I need to be more giving with Paul. He is everything really. He teaches me not to be uptight and be an Everyman.

Great figs off tree outside my tent. The olive oil I got on Vis is a welcome and refreshing change.

Back to mala bar in Volosko to dwell and chill before heading back to the campsite to chill.

Picked up some more bananas and sir(cheese) from Konsum. Back to tent with wolfing Alsatian by the gate. What is it baulking at. Put on ‘má vlast’ to feel hopeful, noble, uplifted and to calm yonder beast.http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?t=comprehensibl-20&o=1&p=8&l=bpl&asins=B00000DFMX&fc1=000000&IS2=1&lt1=_blank&m=amazon&lc1=0000FF&bc1=000000&bg1=FFFFFF&f=ifr

Fighting off the everpresent mozzies I climb up to the shower block for my daily ziclone-b or DDT delousing past good old flag waving Herr Schmitt and Herr Wolfgang. And I actually cleaned the shower I used so that I can use the same one tomorrow and be guaranteed it will be dead insect free.

The candle would not light zo I use der matchens das deutschen frienliches verboten me. And I struck up a symphony of cracking and flashing. The candles wick wouldn’t catch so I used a few matches dipped in wax as would be wicks. Oh and the flames. They did glow high into the night. Now I have no more candles. This is a shame; a tragedy as I must sleep.

9pm and finally mum called me. And now I have no worries. Time to relax on Friday.
